Volcanoes !!!

Hey, Anushka here.Wanted to talk a little bit about Volcanoes.
So, lets get started.

First of all, do you know what a volcano is?

A volcano is an opening, or rupture, in earth's surface or crust.  This opening releases hot magma, volcanic ash and gases from below the surface.

So what is the difference between magma and lava?

Magma is when it is inside the volcano. Lava is when it reaches the earth's surface.

Do you know there are 3 types of volcanoes ?

They are shield, composite and cinder cone. The most common volcano is a shield volcano. The composite volcano has 2 names composite and stratovolcano. The cinder cone volcano is made of rock, ash, and other solid  materials from  volcanic eruptions.

So what cases a chain of volcanoes to from?

Well a chain of volcanoes can be caused due to a hot spot in the ocean. So when a hot spot forms, one volcano is formed.  After a lot of years, another volcano forms in the same path. Eventually a lot of volcanoes are formed in a path. Hawaii for example was formed by a chain of volcanoes.

The volcano that I will talk about is called Mauna Loa. This volcano is located in Hawaii.
It is an active shield volcano, with a volume estimated at approximately 18,000 cubic miles, although its peak is about 120 feet. Lava eruptions from Mauna Loa are silica-poor, and very fluid; eruptions tend to be non-explosive and the volcano has relatively shallow slopes.

That's all for today folks keep reading my blog and ....
